Overview
The Thimphu Tshechu is celebrated on the 10th day of the 8th month of the Bhutanese lunar calendar. Before the public festivities begin, special prayers and sacred rituals are conducted within Tashichho Dzong to invoke protective deities and blessings.
The festival features vibrant mask dances performed by monks, portraying the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, the revered saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan. These sacred performances are a cherished part of Bhutanese Buddhist tradition and carry deep spiritual significance.
